The Differences Between the European & American Roulette Wheels

The American roulette wheel has 38 numbered slots while the European roulette wheel has 37. Numbers 1-36 are alternately in red or black columns. The zero/s are in green columns. If you’ve ever seen a roulette wheel, you’ll also notice that numbers are arranged in a high-low, odd-even order.

The roulette wheel always spins counter-clockwise while the white ball goes around in the opposite direction (clockwise). While the wheel’s still spinning, you can continue calling out your bets. When the roulette wheel finally stutters to a stop, the dealer shall reject all other bets. The white ball shall also gradually come to a stop and the winning number is where the white ball finally rests.
